Company History

Bert Boes became a Standard Oil agent in Holland, Michigan in 1929.
In 1960. Bert's son, Merle, took the agency over.
The company sold approximately 4 million gallons of fuel in 1975.
In 1976 Merle Boes became incorporated as an Amoco jobber.
The first of many gasoline stations was built in 1978 at the current location on Lakewood Blvd. in Holland, Michigan.

Merle's son, Mike began working with his father in 1978, Two more service stations were built by 1982.
In 1986, the Neidlinger Oil Company in Grand Haven, Michigan was purchased. This acquisition added a service station in Muskegon and a bulk plant. Expansion of lube branding now included Texaco and business expanded into new market areas including Grand Haven and Muskegon.

In 1990 Merle Boes retired and Mike Boes became head of the family business. Three more stations were added throughout the area.

In 1998 the Chevron brand was added and MBI lubricant sales stretched from western Michigan to the Detroit area. An additional station was purchased in Norton Shores where a raze and rebuild was performed.
In 1999 Merle Boes Inc. purchased the lube division of American Gas & Oil in Sparta. Also in 1999, a joint venture with McDonald's Restaurant was opened in Holland, Michigan which included an Amoco Service Station/Convenience Store and Car wash.
Another Amoco Service Station /Convenience Store/Car wash was opened in Muskegon on Apple Avenue.
In 2004, a Marathon Station was added to Merle Boes, Inc. It is located on the East Beltline in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Today, Merle Boes, Inc. owns and operates 13 service station / convenience stores. We deliver quality Marathon, Shell and BP/Amoco products to over 40 dealers in Michigan.
